SYMBOLS!

When this was mentioned in class, I was automatically triggered to the first time I was enrolled in a graphic design course here at UT! It is meant to be a functional design but became art for art sakes when I started doing research. I noticed there were many illustrations from movies and cartoons that designers developed into symbols.

Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau influences I was on my way to buy a snow cone and I saw this sign on this contemporary looking building! The illustration is really reminiscent of Aubrey Beardsley's work. The elongated peacock falls similar to Beardsley's illustrations below. The curvilinear line works are present, the typeface can also identify as an influence from alphonse mucha's advertisements.

Photograms

After studying and presenting photograms, I realized I created my own "botanical" plant photogram last year just like William H Talbot. At the time I had no idea who he was. Even though I hated the dark room, his discovery on photograms was the only fun part of film photography for me personally. The chemical "fix" that keeps your photo intact after developing is still used today and has kept all my photos preserved.
